p ICOM
'1'o:CityofGvcrcnPlanningDept—JefiHcilman n AUG 2 4 2U09 D.
Re: Beeson Projcct - tf C0907-021
Datc: 8/22009
CITY OF EVERET7
Permit SqrviGn
1. Ridgc I3eam: 'I'hc intention was lhat the combination of collar ties on each
rafler, roof diaphragms, and other framing systems Nould have made for a non
supporting ridge possibility. After speaking wilh another structural engineer,
even though he agreed we could do this without a structural ridge, in his
opinion it would be casicr to agree with your call on this, under the
circumstances. I have indicated a structural ridge throughout the plans (A-2
and A-3), and supported it as indicated via existing posts through the garage.
Largcr footings have been indicated on A-2 Poundation.
2. Point loads from multiple Floor Joists: No multiplc floor joists are supporting
any concentrated roof loads or othenvise. They are simply indicating positions
where walls above in the 2" Floor exist, or whem window jacks exists. A
structural engincer advised that since no roof loads are concentrated on these
positions there is no location wherc there is anything close to 3000 Ib loads
coming down on these multiple tlar joist positions. The 3 locations wherc
triple floor joists were shown previously may have made it seem that large
loads wcrc involved. That is not the case. Originally 1 had them all as double
floor joists simply to support slighdy increased dead loads of walls above, not
triple. Thc builder indicated a dcsirc to make thcm triple. 1 have reverted them
back to double (A-2 First Floor). The builder can make them triple if he so
dcsires.
3. G'/. x 15 GLB: this is an altcrnatc mid garagc bcam as indicatcd by the namc
on the beam calcs. 1 have inJicated on the plans (A-2 First Floor) that this
beam can be uscd as an altematc to the 5 1/8 x 22 Yz GLB through the middle
f the garagc. If thc builJing dept prefers, this alt can be eliminated as an
aption.
4. 2 Dit%rcnt calcs for multiple 2x12's (and 2x10's).'I'hese calcs are for the 10'
span and 12' span beams around the patio as indicatcd on the plans and in the
bcam calcs thcroselves. The bcam calc sottwarc does not have a selection for
6x I Ys. 'I'h 12' span calcs support the use of Gx 12 beam on the North side of
the patio. Plate connectors hae been called out on all previously indicated 45
dcgrec braces at each patio post to further assist and mitigate any addeci loads
from current changes by the addition of a supporting ridge. Thc East and West
hcams havc becn mcalculated for the (newer) 10' width of the patio. The
center bcam is 6a 12 with supporting calc. All indicated on A-2 First Floor.
i. Garagc / living space separetion:'/:" GWB has been indicated on A-2 First
Ploor wall and multiple tloor joists suprting the separation wall above.
G. Smoke alarnis: lhe smokc alattns (SD) were alreauy indicated inside and
outside of thc 2"' floor door. A note has becn added :o further identify them,
