4. VEGETATION
A. 1 . Ylsuel tnsoection - wetland huHer and pA p
The plantmg plan portion of the construction plans is fncluded in the Map Section at
the back of this report (Exhibit 5). These plans detail the species, quantities, sizes,
conditions, and locations of installed plantings. Specific locations are shown for all
wetland areas; buffer and EPA areas were divided into sections and typical vegetation
plens are provided for eFch section. Planting and site preparation notes are also
induded.
In generel, Installed trees range in size from 3 - 6' tall, some balled and burlap, some
bare rot; see plant schedule. Shrubs are generally 1 - 3' tall in size and
predominately bare root. Some cottonwood and willow cuttings are included, as well
as some container plants. Emergent and herbaceous species were planted from
dfvisions and some plants in 4" squere pots. Several full-grown willows were salvaged
during construction and replanted.
The plenting plan was designed as a tool to establish relative density and spacing of
plantings within the wetland mitigation area. The exact placement of each plant within
a particular section was determined by the landscape contractor with specific
guidelines provided by Tha Watershed Company. Plantings were installed in sections
consisting of a single cell or a limited set of cells. Once the plan was consulted for the
number and species oi plants for that particular section, the density, spacing, and
relative elevation were determined according to speciflc environmental requfrements
provided by The Watershed Company. These included spacing, soil moisture and
water depth parameters. A copy of these guidelines is included in Appendix C.
2. Plant sorces
All plant sources were from western Washington or western Oregon. Plants were
brought in from ten separate localities and are listed below. Appendix D lists ail
installed plants and their respective sources.
Washington suppliers: Pacific Plants, Issaquah
Pacific Plants, Monroe
Wetlands 8 Woodlands, Everett
Oregon suppliers: Pacfic Plants, Salem
Pacfic Plants, Boring
Balance Restoration Nursery, Lorane
Balance Restoration Nursery, Eugene
Balance Restoration Nursery, Yoncalla
Balance Restoration Nursery, Cottage Grove
Balance Restoration Nursery, Florence
14
