Ron says he talked to Mr. Williams and told him at that time to remove the
combustibles and lJilliams agreed.
We would have no objection to the storage of non-combustibles in tfiis area.
I told him that he had a non-complying use and that I did not think the Building
Official would permit such a use. Other discussion followed.
Later that same day I had Doug Budr.n look at it and he agreed that it was
definitely illegal use of the building.
This area would be undefendable if a serious fire should get started. It is
completely below grade--solid concrete--no openings other than the roll-up
doors. No way to vent the place.
We feel that they should be requied to remove the combustible storage--to
remove the combustible walls illegally constructed or at least fire retard
finish them.
They should be required to obtain a permit for the work they have done with
a penalty along with a change in CO if your department is agreeable.
These people who ar 'facilities managers' know better or should know better.
Pat McClain of the Administration was contacted by Mr. Wales, I believe, the
store manager. Apparently this is going to be a politically sensitive issue.
Pat advised us to 'tell it like it is' in our reports. Enclosed is a copy
of our correspondence on the matter.
SP/sh
Attachments
