In residential occupancies, the rise of every atep Sn a atairrray <br />ahall be not more than 8 inches. The run shall be not less than 9 <br />inchrss. The largest tread run aithin any flight of atairs ahall not <br />exceed the smallest by more than 3/8 inch. The greatest riser height <br />within any flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more <br />than 3/8 inch. <br />2. Every stairway serving a residential occupancy shall have at least <br />one handrsil placed 34 inches minimum, 38 inches msximum above the <br />tread nosing. Ends shall be returned or shall terminate in newel <br />posts or safetp terminals. The handgrip portion of handralls shall <br />be not less than 1 1/2 inches nor more than 2 inches in <br />cross-aectional dimension or the shepe shall provide an equivalent <br />gripping surfnce. <br />3. Smoke detectors shall be mounted on the ceiling or wall at a point <br />centrally located in the corridor or area giving access to each <br />separate sleeping area. <br />4.
