Everett's zoning code currently allows ADUs in single family and A-1 zones when attached to, or located within, a principal dwelling unit. ADUs that are detached from the principal dwelling are not allowed in single family zones, except within Historic Overlay zones,where they are regulated as "infill dwelling units." The Planning Commission has initiated consideration of a code amendment to allow detached ADUs in single family zones. The Planning Commission held four public workshops and one public hearing and has recommended that the City Council approve the Ordinance amending the current regulations, and adding detached ADUs as a permitted use in single family residential and the A-1 zones.
