Waming devices on vehicles (back up beepes)are exempt from the City's noise ordinance,
but are perceived as irritating by most people. Develogments that abut residential zones must
be designed to shield vehicle maneuvering and loading areas from residential areas by
place:nent of buildings, berms, etc. (SEPA Environtnental Health Policirs)
7.2 TOXIC/HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AND EXPLOSIVES
7.2.1 Threshold
Addtional SEPA analysis is required for clean-up of contaminated sites.
7.2.3 Mitigatio Measures
Construction Phase
1. Construction equipment and vehicles must be maintained so they do not leak fuels c.r
lubricants. During constn:ction, a staging area must be specified for all vehicle maintenance
activities. The staging area must be located well away from all drainage courses. Where
possible, all stormwater from related maintenance areas must be directed to the sanitary
sewer, rather than the stortnwater system. (SEPA Earth, Water and Environmental Health
Policies)
2. During construction activities, all spills of fuel and hazardous materials must be contained
and removed in such a manner as to prevent their entering the waters and soils of the State.
Cleanup of spills must take precedence over other work on site. (SEPA Earth, Water and
Environmental Health Policies)
3. During construction, all petroleum products, chemicals, and building materials that could
contaminate tunoff must be stored in a lined covered azea. An impervious berm must be
constructed around the perimeter of the storage area. The storage area must be located away
from environmentally sensitive areas. (SEPA Earth, Water and Environmental Health
Policies)
Oaeration Phase
4. Dumpsters must be covered and maintaincd, so that stortnwater runoff from refuse does not
enter storm drains or infiltrate into soil.
