i .

1.2 SCOPE OF SERVICES
The purpose of our sen ices is to assisl ihe project Icam with tlic ecotechnical aspects of thc
JanSport project. Wc perfonned a suhsurfacc crploration program at the sitc and dcvcloped
, conclusions and geotechnical recontmcndations for thc pmposed imprm cments. Our spccific scopc
of senices included the follocine tasks.
1. Locatc and dwr cistinc utilitics.
 2. Review available topocraphic infomiatinn for the fornier pit under Lots I and 2 and cstimatc
fill depths and original site erades. Evaluate the foMprint and height of a larc ovcrhurdcn till
stockpile located on the sitc(north side).
 3. Esplom subsurface soil and ground w•ater conditinns of the eisting uncontrolled merburden
fill soils under the buildine location by advancing eight borings through the fill and into the
y native dense fonner pit floor sand. The borings were advanced to depths ranging from 1 I'/: io
2G'h feet below the ground surface.
t. Eraluate pertinent physical and engineerine characteristics of the fill soils based on laboratory
tcsts perfortned on samples obtained from the borings.
5. Provide recommcndations for site prepara[ion and earthwork induding suitability of on-sitc
soils for use as structural fill.con, traints for wet weather construction. gradation crileria for any
swctural fill material hich may have to be imported, and fill placement and compaction
requircments. Provide recommendations for temporanand pertnanent cut and/or fill slopes.
 6. Develop recommendations 1'or foundation design including allowable wil bearing pressurcs,
minimum footing sizes for pad and strip footings, and minimum depth of footings below
r finished grade. Include allocable increases in soil bearing when supporting seismic generated
 loads.
7. Estimate global settlement for various pans of the sitc depending on previous fill stockpile
I preloading and the densin of the below erade fill. Estimate local settlement below spread
footings.
 8. Provide recommendations for design of loading dock retaining t•alls including active and
passive lateral soil pressures, and the coefficient of base friction for resisting lateral forces.
9. Provide recommendations for support of on-grade iloor slabs including capillary break and
lvapor retarder,as appropriate.
( ]0. Discuss seismiciry at the site and provide seismic design parameters including soil profile type
and site coefTicient based on 1997 Unifomt Building Code(UBC)cri[eria.
 11. Provide recommendations for subgrade preparation in access driveµays and parking areas.
' 12. Provide recommendations for surface and subsudace drainage based on ground µater
I conditions cncountered in the explorations or expected in the area. Provide comments on the
potential settlement from water infiltration into the fill.
13. Comment on any anticipated construction difficulties identi6ed from the resulu of our .ite
( studies and from our eperience at the CSR site.
I
( G c o E n g i n c c r s 2 FilcNo. 75R4•002-00•11301050101 j,,L
1 'w
