  .
 :
I sFwNrioHvvson.irc.
layer is ptaced and compacted. A neazby stable benchmerk is required as a reference point. The
results of monitoring should be recorded and transmitti digitally via email to Shannon&
Wilson,Tnc. on a weekly basis,or more frequently if conditions dictate.
1 4.5 Buildfng Foundations and F7oor Slabs
i Based on the subsirface conditions present at the site,it is our opinion that spread footing
foundations and slabs-on-grade would be suitable for the proposed field house and other lightly
, loaded suuctures such a low seatwalls, concrete dugouts, field illumination systems and
bleachers. The footings and slabs should beaz in medium dense sandy soils. The proposed field
i
house floor slab will be at elevation 562 feet, approximately the same elevation as the existing
, g.nund surface. We recommend that the area beneath the field house footptint be overexcavatai
by a minimum of 2 feet and replaced with swctural fill compacted to 95 percent of its maximum
I dry density.
The allowable bearing pressure for spread fontings is based on the subsurf,ce infocmation
centained in soil boring B-4(GeoEngineers, i 997) and the recommendations presented in this
repori. For design putposes we recommend that all footings be sized for an allowable bearing
Ipressute of 1,000 pounds per square foot, assuming that dense subgrade soils will be present
after the subgrade is compacted and 2 feet of struc, ural fill is placed. This bearing pressure is
I intended to minimize foundation settlements. It may be increased by 30 percent for seismic and
i
windloading.
During construction we recommend that all Y'ooting subgrade soils be evaluated by a
geotechnical er.gineer to confirm that medium dense or better soils aze preent. We expect that
Isome areas of the site will encounter loose soils ard, thereforo, some in-situ densification should
be anticipated. In-situ densification would consist of sstematically compacting the loose
granulaz soils with a backhoe-mounted vibratory plate compactor. No footings or slabs should be
founded in loose topsoil, wet or disturbed soils, or soils containing numerous organics.
I The recommended allowable bearing pressure is also contingent upon the following
considerations:
I
r Footings or slabs should be founded at least 12 inches below the lowest adjacent grade.
• If passive resistance is required, they should be founded at least 24 inches below the
` lowest adjacent grade.

W862fl-n 'p/ajm V✓8628-0
( " 29
1
