I p TEL:206-820-6953 Rug OS.9q
CASCADE GEOTECHNICAL INC.
Auust S, 1994 Job No. 9407-(`,v3
To the south, a single-family house adjoins the lot and to the west and north ace city parklands
maintained in their native statc.
The house appears w be consuucted on a cut and fill pad. The south edge of the pad is a cut
slope pmtected by a rockery six (6) to dght (8) feet high. The south basement interior wali
forms a retaining wall against this slope. Approximately twenty five (25) fat north irom the
outh end of the house vertical ccacks were obsecved in the west founda6on. A brick facade
cavers the east founda6on. The bricks have sepacated at a point approximately thirty (30) feet
north of the south end of the building. The interior bacement slab on the nonh end of the hous
ehowed a diaonal crack with observable displacement that appeazs to be related W the exterior
ccacin. Addidonai cracks were locakd on the second story npproximately midwey throuh the
house. These cracks were mming asdwest and extended across the ceilings and vertically on
the exterior u►d interior walls.
We observed ttiat the noithwest portion of the house is located on pn angle-of-trpose slope with
slope anQlp raninQ between appmximate]y 30 to 35 derea,. A deck has bc. bit extendin
from the house mer the slope. A rockery has been constructd beneath the dxk sing broloen
concneoe slab pieces to form a slope at appmximately 50 degrces. It is six to eight feet hih and
about fiftan (13) fett long. Above and below the wall the slope continues at appmximately a
30 deYroe angle.
We observed the surficial soiis exposed beneath the foundation of the northeast wmer of the
house and undemeath the deck. The aurficial soils beneath the foundation appear to be a loose
uncontrollad fill. The fill appears to be a endy geavel mixed with a silry sand with yravel. It
inciudes conswction debris, concrete chunks and some or;anic matter.
Roof drains were observed on the northwest and southwcst corners of the house. The roof
drains wen 6ghtlined away from the immediate slope. The roof drain from the northwest
k
. .
