April 6,2007
Page 4
1 Approximate levee footprint that would be required to raise existing levees to the 10-year plus 2-feet
elevation;and
• Approximate footprint for a potential new levee along the 12th Street NE alignment that has a crest
elevation at the 10-year plus 2-feet elevation.
Deliverables:These assessments and maps will be provided as part of the report prepared under Task 5. Maps
will be provided as color plates in the report,and in electronic form(*.shp format).
TASK 4—ALTERNATIVES
Adolfson will provide a summary description of potential alternatives for consideration by the City. These will
include a description of the requirements for certification of the levees for entrance into the Corps maintenance
program and a description of requirements for FEMA to agree they provide flood protection.
Three alternatives will be described and an Opinion of Probable Cost provided for each. These may include; 1)
protecting only the WPCF,2) accepting Diking District No. 5 Ievees west of I-5 and east of I-5 and south of 12th
Street NE, or 3)a varied level of protection within Diking District No. 5.
Deliverables:These alternatives will be described with an Opinion of Probable Cost provided in the report
described in Task 5, below.
TASK 5—REPORT PREPARATION
A report will be prepared for the City that documents the work completed for the previous tasks. A draft will be
prepared for City review before finalizing. Once comments are received the draft will be revised and a final
version of the report will be delivered to the City.
Deliverables:
• Five printed copies of the draft report;
• An electronic version of the draft report(in*.pdf format);
• Five printed copies of the final report; and
• An electronic version of the final report(in*.pdf format).
ASSUMPTIONS
We have made several assumptions concerning this work, including:
1. Rights-of-entry for the field reconnaissance will be provided by the City.
2. Field reconnaissance will include the Diking District 5 levees on Smith Island as shown on Figure 1.
This includes:
a. Existing levees west of I-5 but within Diking District 5,
6 5
