AN ORDINANCE relating to Automatic Fire Detection and Fire Suppression Systems, Amending Sections 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 of Ordinance No. 1902-02 (EMC 16.76.020, 16.76.030, 16.76.040, 16.76.060, 16.76.070, 16.76.080, 16.76.090, 16.76.100, 16.76.110 and 16.76.120), Adding two new sections, and Repealing Section 5 of Ordinance. No. 1902-02 (EMC 16.76.050). Whereas,the City Council is aware that some terminology changes in the International Building and Fire Codes,particularly with respect to occupancy types, has necessitated some updates to the City's automatic fire detection and automatic suppression systems ordinance, Ordinance No. 1902-92; and Whereas,the City Council also desires to accomplish other necessary and relevant updates to the automatic fire detection and automatic suppression systems ordinance; Whereas,the City Council finds that this ordinance serves to protect the public health, safety and welfare;and Whereas,the City Council finds that the absence of the regulations adopted by this ordinance would create a public harm; NOW,THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: Section 1: Section 2 of Ordinance No. 1902-92(EMC 16.76.020),which reads as follows: Definitions. For purposes of this chapter, words and phrases used in this chapter shall mean as follows: "Approved"means approval by the city of Everett fire chief as a result of investigation and tests conducted by him or by reason of accepted principles or tests by national authorities,technical or scientific organizations. "Area separation wall"means a wall constructed in accordance with the requirements of the UBC. "Automatic fire detection system"means a heat and/or smoke detection system monitored by a central and/or remote station conforming to the requirements of the UBC. All references in this chapter to automatic fire detection system means an 2 12 "approved"automatic detection system.
