This would dramatically enhance the <br />Department's data transmission resources, and also support other City departments' needs. <br />Utilities is planning significant security improvements at both the Water Filtration Plant and the Water <br />Pollution Control Facility. Full implementation of these improvements would be significantly enhanced and <br />expanded if a network of fiber optic cable were available for data transmission. The Information Technology <br />Department, as well as Telecommunications, have indicated strong support for this, and anticipate significant <br />benefits for meeting their department's needs and goals. <br />RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): <br />Authorize advertisement of Request for Qualifications for consultants with expertise in optical fiber cable in <br />utility pipeline applications. <br />15- <br />
