We have before us a proposal to name the main reading room of the main
Everett Library after former director Mark Nesse. Larry O'Donnell is here from the
Library Board to present the proposal.
Larry O'Donnell: I am President of the Library Board of Trustees and am here in that
capacity to talk about one of my favorite people, Mark Nesse. He merits having the
reading room at the main Everett Library named after him for the reasons I am about to
present. City Councilman Bob Overstreet suggested it would be nice to pay tribute to
Mark Nesse. Mr. Overstreet was instrumental in the City's recent adoption of a policy
and procedure for naming City facilities.
I am handing out some information to supplement my presentation tonight. As you'll
note in that information, some of the things Mark Nesse is proud of are:
• The quality of library services in Everett(Northwest Room, Children's Service,
Outreach Programs).
• Our beautiful facilities—the Evergreen Branch in south Everett and the award
winning Main Library.
• Restoration of Pegasus, the 1929 Model A bookmobile, the oldest bookmobile in the
world.
• Establishment of the Library Endowment, with a goal of 20 donors giving$50,000
each by the end of the decade. Eight have been identified so far.
• Establishment of the coffee shop in the Main Library.
I have included some articles from the Herald that address these features. They all help
8 the library achieve a margin of excellence with increased funding.
