•..w , <br /> Christina Castorena <br /> Short Bio <br /> Christina has worked in the post-secondary level of education for nineteen years. She is <br /> currently the Associate Dean for Diversity at Everett Community College,where she has <br /> been employed since 1998. <br /> Christina earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Colorado State <br /> University and her Masters of Education degree from Western Washington University. <br /> She is a long-time community activist and is involved in local community organizations <br /> and activities representing and advocating for communities of color and other under- <br /> represented groups. Currently, Christina serves as the chair of the YMCA's Minority <br /> Achievers Program Advisory Committee and has been involved since the program was <br /> introduced in Snohomish County in 2001. Christina is also a member of the Snohomish <br /> County MLK Community Celebration Committee. Her previous community <br /> involvement include past president of the Whatcom Hispanic Organization and <br /> Bellingham Chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens. She also served <br /> as the first chair of the Whatcom Human Rights Taskforce,which was formed in <br /> response to hate-crimes in Whatcom County in the early 1990's. <br /> Christina was recently honored with two awards. She was recently selected as the"2007 <br /> Outstanding Advocate for Equity"by the Washington State Trustees Association of <br /> Community and Technical Colleges. And, she was honored by the YMCA of Snohomish <br /> County Minority Achievers Program,which presented her the"Ray Sievers Adult <br /> Achievers"award last spring. <br />
