5 <br />• Street trees shall be a minimum of 2-1/2" caliper and shall be <br />spaced no further apart than 25 feet. <br />• Street tree planting should consider the location of existing <br />utilities, lighting and proposed signs. <br />• Tree grates should be installed at the base of each street tree when <br />needed. <br />4.1.11 Pedestrian Connections: <br />Intent: To create a network of safe and attractive linkages for <br />pedestrians. <br />Guidelines: Within parking lots, between a public right-of-way <br />and building entrances, and between parking lots and <br />building entrances, clearly defined pedestrian connections <br />should be provided. <br />• Pedestrian connections can be counted toward the amount of <br />required landscaping. <br />• Pedestrian connections shall not be less than five feet wide. <br />• Pedestrian connections shall be clearly defined by at least two of <br />the following: <br />- A six-inch vertical curb, <br />- Textured paving, including across vehicular lanes, <br />All <br />- A continuous landscape area at a minimum of three <br />feet wide on at least one side of the walkway. <br />34 <br />
