Warer QualiN
The on-site wetland has the potential ro provide some water qu.lity improvement
functions. It is likely that the vegetation in the wedand is currendy functioning to
uptake nutrients, as well as to trap sediment during periods of inundation.
Wifdlife Habitat
The on-site wetland and its bufFer have potential to provide habitat for wildlife
species such as birds and mammals. The stream serves as a wildlife corridor as
well as provides water when saturared. Wedand vegetation provides both food
and cover and the proximity of thc wetland to forested upiands serves to provide
edge.
W ILDLIFE
The following wildlife specie was observed durin the site investigation: common raven
(Corvus corar). Many more avian and amphibian species are expected to inhabit the area
and utilize the onsite wetlands. No mammals were observed during our site
investigation, however, a variery of mammals are expected to use the site because of its
forested nature.
CONCEPTUAL I'IITIGATION PLA`7
This project proposes to build 11 duplexes on the site. Five duplexes are proposed for the
noRhern portion of the site with access from 104'" Stret. The other six are proposed for
[he southem portion of the site with access from Rosewood Avenue. In order to provide
access for the southern portion of the site, 638 square feet of wetland in the southeast
corner of the site is proposed for impact, along with an adjacent 607 square feet of
wedand to be designated as buffer. Another 698 square feet of wedand to be designated
as buffer is proposed to replace buffer impacts for a sidewalk, along Rosewood avenue,
for a total of 1,305 square feet of wetland designated as buffer. To replace functions and
values for the impacred wedand, mitigation is offered in the form of wetland creation.
Using a ratio of 1.5:1, a 2,914 square foot upland area bordering both sides of the creek in
the western portion of the site is proposed for use. Plants proposed to be used in wetland
creation are Westem red cedar, Salmonberry, Red-osier pogwood, Slough sedge, and
Small fruit bulrush.
$ (o
