Sedges and rushes shall be plugs and will be planted on 18" centers in several lazge
clumps covering 10 percent of the area.
PLANTING AREA DETAILS
The plantings will be arranged in a pattern of appropriate numbers, sizes, species and
distribution of plants to achieve the desired vegetation coverage. The actual placement of
individual plants shall attempt to mimic namrl, asymmetric vegetation patterns found on
similar undismrbed sites in the area. Plant spacing may be adjusted so that existing
native vegetation remains undisturbed. An on site pre-planting meeting involving the
consulting biologist and the landscape contractor shall occur. The areas for planting will
be staked at that time. Planting areas will be determined by soil conditions, hydrology,
and exisung vegetation.
PLAYTING NOTES
. Plant in the earl,s ring,or late fall. Order plants from a reputable nursery. Care and
handling of plan[ materials is extremely importmit to the overall success of the
project.
• Comtition from non native erasses 5cot's broom blackbenies, and Jananese
knotweed will tend to overgrow the planted species. Maintenance will be necessary
a minimum of twice a year for the first and second growing seasons following
construction. Grasses should be cut away from the planted nacive species.
. Two foot tall lath stakes should be driven to a depth of at least six inches next to
each shrub planted to assist in locatin; the plants while removing the competing
undesirable vegetation.
• Chemicals mav be used to eliminate undesirable plant species if determined
necessary by a Snohomish County Biologist and Consulting Biologist.
. Suanle^.T mental irrieation may be necessary for the first and second summer, at least
once per week, during periods of drou;ht. This wi115e determined by a Snohomish
Counry Biologist and Consulting Biologist.
• Noxious weed control
The State of Washington has established a weed control law (RCW 17.10) in which
ceRain "designate" species of weeds are to be controlled by landowners. Other "non-
designate" species may be abundant in certain regions and control of the species is a
local option. Control is defined in WAC 16-750 as the prevention of all seed
production. The Snohomish County Noxious Weed Control Board has established a
loc:il list of species designated for control.
1 z W
