SUB AREA 4: PAINE-STICKNEY
Area Description/Features
The Paine-Stickney subarea contains all areas between SR 525 (Mukilteo Speedway) and Airport
Road. Its northern border is SR526, and is bordered on the south by 148th St. SW and I-5. The
area contains Paine Field as well as residential areas to the south. The residential neighborhoods
are bisected by Highway 99, a strip development containing a variety of commercial businesses.
Once past the busy roadways, the area is characterized by two-lane winding roads that are
relatively traffic free. These roads offer excellent opportunities for scenic bicycle and pedestrian
routes. While the entire subarea lies within Everett's Urban Growth Boundary as dictated by
Growth Management, only parts of Paine Field actually lie within the city limits. The remainder
is under the jurisdiction of Snohomish County.
Existing trails
At present, the Snohomish County Parks Department has identified SR 525, SR 526, and the
Interurban Trail as major trail corridors. Planning efforts for community level trails have not
been conducted. Future planning efforts should be coordinated between Snohomish County, and
City of Mukilteo Parks Departments, Everett Parks, and local neighborhoods to determine the
need for community and neighborhood trails.
W:\PLANNING\TRAILS\COMP96.DOC 18
