The non-motorized trail system is composed of regional, community, and neighborhood trails.
Regional trails, such as the Interurban trail, connect a broad range of communities, and
unincorporated county area, and are identified as such by the PSRC (Puget Sound Council of
Governments). Community trails provide loops within the City of Everett to facilitate access to
parks, schools, businesses, and commercial areas.
Neighborhood trails provide local access, creating a better of sense of community. A variety of
trail types have been identified to serve many users. These trail types include: pedestrian trails,
bicycle trails, interpretive trails, and connector trails. Varying experience levels, and differences
between recreational and commuter users have been identified to anticipate user preferences.
Specific design criteria have been developed to assist in locating trail corridors, and have been
used in the development of the trail plan.
W:\PLANNING\TRAILS\COMP96.DOC 4
