The Washington State Departrcent of Heal[h (DOH) cross connection regulations require water
purveyors, such as Everett, to maintain safe cirinking water by taking precautions to ensure thzt fire
protection water in both commerciai and residential sprinkler systems does not backFlow into the pubiic
system. In the past, single check valves were considered as an adequate backflow device for commercial
properties. However, DOH has determined that doubie check detector assemblies (DCDA) are the
minimum acceptable backflow protection device for commercial fire protection systems. Some
commercial buiidings in Everett still have single check-valves installed, which now must be upgreded to a
DCDA for wmmercial tre services when new construccion is planned [hat wil! affect fire services. This
additional protection is necessary to adhere to DOH regulations and ensure safe drinking water.
Sincer.ly,
 '1-r-k--
Tim Markham, WQCO
Cross Cunnection Specialist
cc: Permit Services Manager Paul McKee, Assistant Fire Marshal ]im Venturo, Utilities Records Manager
Verl Sly, Meg Haley
CITY OF EVEETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 9820` • (425) 257-8800 • Fax (425)257-8882
-. - • , s •.--ia-s _—;:„',
. . . . . .    tk}
... . .. . . 'a"R+..+F. Y J
K
 __
, . .- . i. '.
.. .. __✓ ...IS i
