Geotectu cal Engineering Evalus.,,,n Letter NGA File No. 886013
Mosman._sement December 17, 2013
Everett, Washingron Page 3
explorations are shown on the Schematic Sitc Plan in Figure 2. A geofogist from NGA was pmsent
during the exp'orations, examined the soils and geologic conditions encountered, obtained samples of the
different soil types, and maintained logs of the test pits and hand hole.
The soits were visually classificd in general accordauce with che Unificd Soil Classification System,
presented in Fi.:re 3. The Igs of our test pits and hand hole are attached to this report and are presented
as Figure 4. We present a brief summary of the subsurface conditions in the following paragraph. For a
detailed description of the subsurface conditions, the exploration logs should bc reviewed.
At the surfacc of the test pits and the hand hole, we encountered approximately 2.0 to 5.0 feet of very
loose to loose, brown-y fine to coarse sand with gravel, with varying amouiits of organics that we
interpreted as undocumented fill. Undcrlying the undocumented "ill soi;s in our test pits and hand holc,
we encountered medium dense to dense, reddish brown fine to medium sand with [race silt and gravel
interpreted to be advance outwash soils. The test pits and hand hole were tertninated within the nativc
advance outwash soils at dep[hs in thc range uf 4.5 to 8.0 feet below the existing ground surfacc,
respectively.
Existing Foundallon CondiHons
"fhe existing foundation depths exposed in the explorations are shown in Table 1. In each of the
explorations we obscrvcd that the old footing was approximately three inches wider than the old
foundation stem wall, with the new added foundation a•all being roughly as wide as die width of thc old
footing. We also obscrved that plastic shcetins was placed on the exterior side of the ncwly poured
concrete foundation. lt appcars that the newly poured faundation concrete was poured directly against
the soils along the extcrior portion of the residence.
Table 1:
Footing I,ocation Dcpth of Old ootiog Below Depth of New Founda[ion
Bottom of Sidin Fect BeloN Bottom of Sidin Feet
Eastcm Footin Test Pit 1 5.0 8.0
Nonhcrn Pootin est Pit 2 3.0 6.5
Western Footine (Hand Hole I) 2.5 S.Q
NELSON GEOTECHNICAL ASSOCIATES, INC.
