Gcotcchnical Engineering Report
5 I 17 23` Avc W
January 2, 2009
RMI ile No. 50909
Paec d
Scismic Hazard
"I'hc Site Class is C as shown in Tablc 1613.5.2 of the 2006 International Building Code (IBC).
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
General
It is our opinion that the site is compatible, from a geotechnical engineering standpoint, with proposed
developments planned on this lot, provided recommendations and precautions herein are followed. The
underlying deposits into which they will be buil! typically have high strength and are considered stable
vith regard to deep-seated earth movemenL The native soils should provide adequate support. We
rccommend that a replacement rctaining wall be a rcinforced concrete wall extending through any loose
surficial soils or fill and be founded on the vcry dense umveathered till about 6 feet below the curreut
ground Icvel.
The contractor sclected will likely wish to remove thc existing soft fill and replace it with sand or gavel.
He should ensure that he does not undemiine the deck.
Erosion Control Measures
The crosion hazard for the on-sitc soils is consiJered high but the exposed site area is very limited. The
contractor may havc to crect a silt fence beyon die new retaining wali unless the construction takes
piace in a period of dry weather.
Temporary and Permanent Slopes
Temporary cut-slopc stability is a function of many factors, such as the type and consistency of soils,
depth of the cut, surchargc loads adjacent to the excavation, Icngth of time a cut remains open, and ihe
presence of surface or ground water. It is difficult under these variable conditions to estimate a stable,
temporary, cubslope angle. Therefore, it should be the responsibiliry of the contractor to maintain safe
slope configurations since the contractor is continuously at the job site, able to observe the nature and
condition of dic cut slopes, and ablc to monitor the subsurface materials and ground water conditions
cncountcred.
RMI ASSOCIATES LLC S f I}
