SCHEDULE B: SMITH`.,LAND LANDFILL 177065B <br />PHASE 2 CLOSURE IMPROVEMENTS <br />B. Restrain pipe as necessary to prevent their movement during backfill <br />operations. <br />C. Place material simultaneously in lifts on both sides of pi-je or manhole. <br />1. Pipe 10-Inch and Smaller Diameter: First lift less than or equal to <br />1/2 pipe diameter. <br />2. Pipe Over 10-Inch Diameter: Maximum 6-inch lifts. <br />D. Thoroughly tamp each lift, including area under haunches, with handheld <br />tamping bars supplemented by "walking in" and slicing material under <br />haunches with a shovel to ensure that voids are completely filled before <br />placing each succeeding lift. <br />E. After the full depth of the pipe zone material has been placed as specified, <br />compact the material by a minimum of three passes with a vibratory plate <br />compactor only over the area between the sides of the pipe and the trench <br />walls. <br />F. Do not use power -driven impact compactors to compact pipe zone material. <br />3.7 BACKFILL ABOVE PIPE ZONE <br />A. Trench in Waste: Backfill with excavated waste material to required grades <br />shown on Drawings. Place in maximum 8-inch uncompacted lift thickness and <br />compact material with a minimum three passes with a vibratory plate <br />compactor. <br />B. Trench in Non -Waste Material: Backfill with earthfill to required grades <br />shown on Drawings. Place in maximum 12-inch uncompacted lift thickness <br />and mechanically compact each lift to 90 percent relative compaction prior to <br />placing succeeding lifts. <br />3.8 SEEPAGE BARRIER (TRENCH PLUG) <br />A. Install trench plug in outlet pipe trench at location shown on the Drawings. <br />B. Contractor shall select material as specified in Article Seepage Barrier <br />(Trench Plug). <br />1. Low permeability fill, place iri maximum 8-inch uncompacted lifts and <br />compact to 95 percent relative compaction. <br />2.
