SECTION 01563
SOIL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
C. Contain the tuibid discharge for dewatering construction activities in a dewatering basin in
order to control sediment and provide filtration of water prior to it being released into
adjacent streams or other watercourses.
D. Maintain all erosion and sediment controls so that they work as intended. Any damage to
erosion and sediment controls shall be repaired rr replaced immediately.
When soil erosion and sediment control provisions are found to be not in compliance with
the approved plan, take corrective actions immediately. All corrective and remedial work
required to bring the site into compliance will be at no cost to Sound Transit.
3.04 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
A. Install all sediment and erosion control prior to any major soil disturbance, in their proper
sequence, and maintain until permanent protection is established.
Immediately following initial disturbance or rough grading, protect all critical areas subject to
erosion.
C. Place all silt fences prinr to grading operations and installation of utilities.
D. Stockpile a minimum of ten (10) hay bales onsite for emergencies.
E. Temporarily cap storm drainage inlets, where indicated, and/or protect by a filter to prevent
entry of sediment carried by runoff water until vegetation and/or paving is established as
planned.
Place temporary construction entrances as shown on the Contract Drawings or as required.
Place the gravel on a rough graded, compacted subgrade which has been covered with
Mirafi 600X geotextile fabric or approved equal.
G. Spray water on the exposed areas in quantity as required to prevent blowing and movement
of dust from exposed dry soil surfaces, when directed by the Resident Engineer.
3.05 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
A. Sill Fence:
Silt fence shall consist of goolexlile fabric which width shall be at least 3 feel to provide
for a 2 foot high fence after 1 foct of fabric is buried in the existing soil. Heavy duty silt
fence shall consist of geotextile fabric which width shall be at least 4 feel to provide for
a 3 foot high fence after 1 foot of fabric is buried in the existing soil. Join sections of
fabric in such a manner that, when in operation, the sections work effectively as a
continuous fence. Install fence posts at a slight angle toward the anticipated runoff
source.
2. Heavy-duty sill fence shall include a welded wire mesh backing for the geotextile fabric.
This welded steel wire mesh shall be galvanized and contain 4-inch square openings.
The geotextile fabric shall be secured to the welded wire mesh.
Capital Projects Commuter Rail 01563 - 6 IFB No. RTA/CP 21-06
Everett Station Phase 2 SOIL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
