SECTION 01563
SOIL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
B. Inlet and Catch Basin Filters:
1. Install catch basin and inlet filters, consisting of welded wire mesh and geotextile fabric,
to control sedimentation at existing and proposed inlet structures.
2. Mold welded steel wire mesh around the inlet frame and grate or inlet structure and
extend a minimum of 6 inches down each side of new structures Secure the geotexlile
fabric to the welded wire mesh. Place coarse aggregate size No. 8 against the inlet
structure to hold the inlet (tier in place.
3. Cover openings required in the inlet walls to provide for temporary drainage with
welded wire mesh, geote:•!ile fabric and coarse aggregate size No. 8.
4. Remove inlet and catch basin filters concurrently with paving operations.
C. Dewatering Basin:
Construct dewatering basins wi!hin the project boundaries and outside of any
undisturbed wetland area, and areas not affected by the construction, as a dewatering
containment measure in order to control sediment and provide filtration of water.
2. Size the dewatering basins to entirely contain the expected discharge of water and
sediment based on the flow rate of the pump to be used and the volume of area to be
dewatered. The material to be used to form the basin is at the discretion of the
Contractor. The outfall of the basin shall be such that the water exiting the basin does
not cause erosion to scour the area onto which the water is being discharged.
D. Dust Control:
Employ construction methods and means that keep flying dust to a minimum and
provide for the laying of water or other dust control materials on the project and on
roads, streets and other areas immediately adjacent to the projec! limits, wherever
traffic or buildings that are occupied or in use, are affected by such dust caused by its
hauling or other construction operations. The materials and methods used for dust
control are subject to approval and shall be as directed.
When calcium chloride is used for dust control, use calcium chloride Grade 2 in the
form of loose granules or flakes fine enough to feed through commonly used spreaders
at a rate of application of approximately 1.5 pounds per square yard. Exercise care
when using calcium chloride on steep slopes in order to prevent the calcium chloride
from washing into streams or accumulating around plants. Do not apply calcium
chloride in solution.
Dirt Control:
1. Provide for prompt removal from existing roadways of all dirt and other materials that
have been spilled, washed, tracked or otherwise deposited there.:. by its hauling and
other operations whenever the accumulation is sufficient to cause the formation of
mud, interfere with drainage, damage pavements or create a traffic hazard.
Capital Projects Commuter Rail 01563 - 7 IFB No. RTA/CP 21-06
Everett Station Phase 2 SOIL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL
fm
