It was determined that wails surrounding the
Core (Lobby, Hall, Utility Room and ResVooms) on each floor are rated such that
ducts an pass through without fre-smoke dampers. Ducts from rooftop unit
RTU-7 which pass from ceiling of 3'"floor through 3`° and 2n° floors down tc
ceiling of 181 floor will require a one-hour rated chase from 3'"floor ceiiing to top
of floor between 1°`and 2nd floors. A fire-smoke damper is require!where each
main duct enters at top of chase, and where they exit at bottom of:hase, and
in addition wherever a duct branch exits the chase. Restroom exhaust ducts
need no fire-smoke or fire dampers. Please refer to Tony Finsiand for a detailed
explanatio of why the Core walls do not need to be rated.
Two pages from 2001 Fire Resistance Directory and six pages fi•om
Gypsum Constructior. Handbook given me by Gaffney Constructiori show
options for rated chase construction. Please let me know if this fulfi►Is require-
ments.
3. The support of the seven new rooftop units requires review and stamped structural verification
by a Washington State licensed professional engineer. If required, modifications to the struc-
tural roof framing should also be submitted and wet-stamped by the engineer. For reference,
the number and weights of the rooftop units (RTU) shown on the structural roof framing plan
should coincide with the rooftop unit schedule on sheet M-3.
Response: CanAm drawing JE3 of 5 attached with original submittal shows all roof
trusses, joists and girders and in addition location of each rocftop unit with
weight shown. Selected portions of CanAms structural calculations for each
truss, joist and girder affected by one or more rooftop unit are attached. Cover
page for calculations carries wet stamp of CanAm's structural engineer. The
following rooftop units affect the following structural members:
RTU-1: TJ55 and J55.
RTU-2: J39 and J56.
RTU-3: J59 and TJ51.
RTU-4: J35 and J54.
RTU-5: TJ49 and J49.
RTU-6: TJ49 and J49.
RTU-7: J43, TJ44 and G26.
Sheet M-4 rooftop unit numbers were corrected to properly ceincide with
schedule on sheet M-3.
4. Economizers either are required unless documentation is provided that demonstrates that
economizers are not required, per WSEC table 11-1, or per WSEC section 1423 economizers.
RTU-1, -3, -4 and -6 do not have economizer note referenced on the rooftop unit schedule on
sheet M-3.
Response: All rooftop units will have economizer and schedule was updated to
include economizer infa for all units.
Thanks,
Bengt /(
Bengt-Olov Nordensson/SVVEDE HVAC, Inc.
Celi: 425.508.8984
E-mal: swedehvac@hotmail.com
/ /
