10/07/1998 11:40 4254812510 NELSON-CAINRETTE PAGE 03
Summary Letter of Construction Observations
Home Base Warehwse - Everett, WA
October 7,1992
NCA File No. 2I341397
Page 2
Our services typically were provided on a part-time basis. Summaries of our observations were
presented in Daily Field Reports Nos. 1 through 99, dated November 12, 1997 through September
28, 1998. These have been provided to the general contractor, Construction Associates, and to
Michaelis — Swenson. The Field Reports should be referenced for details of the results of our
observations. This letter provides only a very brief summary of our work.
In general, the activities we observed typically were in general accordance with the plans and
specifications. In cases where they were not at first in general accordance with the plans and
specifications (such as inadequate compaction of fill, or improper subgrade preparation), they
were subsequently corrected.
Although our services are often provided on a part-time basis, we typically prefer to observe
subgrade preparation for all footings, if possible. For this project, we observed subgrade
preparation for the majority of the footings. however, there were a, few footings that were poured
without our observing the prepared subgradr,. These were interior footings along grid line K
(specifically, K-3, K-4, K-5, and K-6), as noted in Field Report No. 85, dated June 26, 1998.
provided the subgrades for these footings were prepared in a manner similar to those footing
subgrades we did observe and considered to be properly prepared, the unobserved footing
subgrades should be suitable to support the design foundation bearing pressure.
In conclusion, it is our opinion that the geoteehnical-related construction activities we observed
were completed in general accordance with the plans and specifications.
.a,
NELSON.COUVRETTE 6 ASSOCIATES, INC.
