Addendum to Geotechnical Engineering Report for Everett Home Base
Proposed Wendy's at Everett Home Base
February 3, 1998
NCA File No. 2134D98
Page 2
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Our understanding of the project is based on a letter dated January 16, 1998 (including a site plan and a
"Soils Summary Form") from Garry Gracey of Wendy's International, and on subsequent telephone
conversations with him. In addition, selected drawings were provided to us by Ruhl - Parr & Associates,
Inc. (Sheets 3, 4, 7A, and 7B; stamp dated January 16, 1998). We understand the restaurant will be about
80 feet by 45 feet in plan dimensions, and that it will be a single -story, wood -framed structure with a
brick veneer exw;'--r and slab -on -grade floors. Conventional shallow spread footings are planned for
foundation support. The area around the building will be paved for parking and a drive -through lane.
There will be a pole -supported sign at the southeast comer of the site
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
We completed two test pits in the vicinity of the proposed Wendy's. These were test pits TP-1 and TP-2,
located approximately at the northeast and southwest comers of the building footprint. Subsurface
conditions observed in these test pits included 1 to 2 feet of loose surficial topsoil over about 1 to 2 feet
of loose to medium dense silty sand (weathered glacial till). This, in turn, was underlain by dense to very
dense silty sand (unweathered glacial till), which was encountered at a depth of about 3 feet at the test pit
locations. Since the time of our explorations, the site has been graded, and the Wendy's parcel has been
cut down about 2 to 5 feet. Medium dense to dense weathered and unweathered till typically was
exposed. This material was suitable for support of the proposed improvements. However, construction
activities for He-ie Base between the time of grading the Wendy's site and the start of construction at
Wendy's could disturb the subgrade, and could necessitate some repair. This should be evaluated when
construction for Wendy's starts,
The recommendations summarized in our previous report for Home Ease should be followed for
Wendy's, as they apply to the geotechnical aspects of design and construction. These include:
• site preparation and grading
• cut and fill slopes
• structural fill
• foundations
• lateral pressures
• site drainage
• slabs -on -grade
• pavements
NELSON-COUVRETTE & ASSCCIATES, INC.
