Planning Commission October 21, 2008 Pg. 5
Meeting Minutes
workshops to review development guidelines and standards. He felt that there was far
greater coverage of Broadway and the core residential standards. There was no
postcard or letter to residents until the Historical Commission meeting. There are 1700
homes in the Riverside neighborhood and 20 to 30 citizens that normally go to
neighborhood meetings. Mr. Eckert stated that there were an overwhelming number of
citizens who did not want the zone south of Everett Avenue and the Historical
Commission ignored their interests. The boundary does not include most of the historic
homes on Leonard or Victor Place.
In closing, Mr. Eckert felt that the proposal should be remanded back to the
neighborhood and each property owner should be afforded the ability to provide input
through more comprehensive workshops.
7:44:57 PM
Tom Eiden, 2414 Baker Avenue, stated that he supports the proposal. He purchased
his home 7 years ago and bought it because of the historical nature of the homes and
neighborhood. He has worked hard to restore his property and would like standards to
help preserve his home and neighborhood for the next 100 years.
7:47:21 PM
Edward Dawson, 2521 Baker Avenue, stated that he was in support of the Historical
Overlay Zone to preserve a historic area of Everett and preserve for future generations.
The historic overlay protects the character of the neighborhood.
7:48:54 PM
Katrina Lindahl, 2515 East Grand Avenue, stated that she supports the historic overlay
to maintain the integrity of the homes and character of the neighborhood. She also
supports boundary alternative 1 which includes the area to California. She was looking
forward to creating another historic overlay zone where she lived in the Riverside district.
7:53:24 PM
Bob Creamer, 2616 Baker, enjoys the neighborhood streetscape. His main concern is
demolition of a historic home and replacement with a home that does not meet the
character of the neighborhood. The guidelines help protect and preserve the
neighborhood.
7:55:22 PM
Michelle Spivey, 2808 19th Street, felt that it was important to restore / preserve historical
neighborhoods. She encouraged supporting the historic overlay to California Street.
7:57:39 PM
Roberta Goodwill, 2125 Virginia Avenue, stated that her home is on the Everett Register.
The historic overlay zone would protect the character and unique quality of the
neighborhood. She supports boundary alternative 1 because there are significant
contributing structures in that area.
8:01:19 PM
Kristine Shaw, 2602 Everett Avenue, supports the modified boundary of the historic
overlay to Everett Avenue. Submitted signed petition on October 1st that requested the
