-2- <br />• When disturbing the soil, wear clean, fuli body protective clothing (coveralis <br />or long sleeve shirt and pants), shoes, and gloves. For n�aximum protection <br />wear a dust mask or other respiratory protection. Wash work clothes <br />separate.from other clothing. <br />• Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing a_ny material while in the work <br />area. <br />• Soil that is to be disturbed should be sprayed with water before and durinc� <br />the project to prevent the generation of dust. <br />4. Avoid other sources of inetal ex osure that could com ound the <br />metal contamination sc il exposure <br />• Minimize children's exposure to hobbies that use lead (e.g. hobbies that <br />involve the use of lead soidering or'painting). <br />• Mai:e sure your child eats a well-balanced diet. Children who have <br />acceptable ircn and calcium intake and low fat intake are less likely to <br />absorb lead �rom their environment. <br />• Maintain the painted surfaces in your home (if it was built prior to 1980) to <br />avoid exposure to lead paint chips and dust. � . <br />• If your job invo��, es the use of lead or lead compounds, or if you work in a <br />lead industry, shower and change clothes before returning home. <br />5. Construction activit <br />• Employees of companies which are required to work in soil within the study <br />area should refer to WAC 296-62 (the Generai Occupational Health <br />Standard), or consult the De�artment of Labor and Industries for assistance <br />on how to reduce work related exposure to contaminated soil. <br />• Soil removal from any site in ;he study area must be carried out in <br />consultation with rhe Snohomish Health District.
