Thc
footing foundations should bc placed on or into undisturbed, very-dense fesh till soils, or on
structural fill constructed on these competent basal soils. Water should not be allowed to
ccumulate in excavated footing trenchzs. Disturbed soils in footing trenches should be
completcly rcmoved or thoroughly re-conipacted prior to pouring concrete Cor thc footings.
If the above recommendtions are followed, our recommended dcsign criteria for footing
foundations arc as f'ollo+s:
• Allowable soil bearing pressure, includizg dead nd live loids, should not be morc than
3,000 psf for looting; poured on or into very-dense Gesh till soils, nd not more than
2,500 psf for footings poured on structural fill constructed on these cumpetent basal soils.
The footing bearing soils shou!d be verified onsite by a geotechnical engineer after the
footing trenches have been excavated and bef'ore the lootings are poured.
•; he minimum depth to bottom of perimeter footings below adjacent final estcrior grade
should be no less than 1 R inches. The minimum depth to bottom of the interior footings
below top of (loor slab should be no Icss than 12 inches.
• The minimum width should be no Iess than 16 inches for continuous footings, and no less
than 24 inches tor individual foolings, excepi those footings supporiing light-weight
decks or porohes.
LIU & ASSOrIATES, INC.
