June l, 200R
Duplex 13uilding
L&A .lob No. AA055
Pagc 12
on critical arcas, mitigation of impacis on critical arcas, itnpact of utilit installation and roudway
construction on geologically hazardous areas, etc.
The subject site is underlain by very-dense fresh till soils of high shear strength with high
resistance against slope fuilures. "rherefore, geological restraints of the site vhich may impact
the stability of the adjacent steep slope (lanking thc east side of the site are either non-existent or
can be minimized to an acceptable level of risk if the recommendations in this report are fiilly
implemented and observed. The vegetation cover on this steep slope should be preserved and not
to be disturbed. Ares devoid of vegetation cover due to construction etivities should bc seeded
and re-vegeLated as soor. as possible. We understand tha trading of building pad and driveway
and building lootprint excavation for the development of thc duplex b!:ilding will be achieved
with ecnventional earthwork equipment. If the mcommendations in this report are followed
during graJing work, the construction tnethod and techniqu should have little impact on the
stability oCthe adjacent stcep slope. Since the driveway and utility lines will approach the duplex
from the street sidc and uphill side away Gom the adjaccnt steep slope, driveway construction
and utility installation sh.uld also have minimal impact on the stability of the adjacent sleep
slope.
According to the design plans of the duplex building, this building is to be set back about 10 to
2 fect from the crest of the adjacent stcep slope of 40% and more grade. It is our opinion that
this selback will be adequate for the duolex building to maintain long-term stability, provided
that: 1) the tboting loundations of the building is embedded at least 6 inches into the very-dense
fresh till soils and, 2) the footing fomidations are constructed in accordance with the
recommendations under the BUILDING POUNDATIONS section in this report.
LIU & ASSOCIATS, INC.
