710FM
RESOLUTION NO. 4402
A RESOLUTION HONORING THE MEMORY OF
WILLIAM JAMES LANGUS
WHEREAS, William James (Bill) Langus, an Everett resident for over 50 years,
dedicated his life to serving his community; and
WHEREAS, Bill served on the Everett City Council from the Council's inception in
1968, until his retirement in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Bill's service to his community was truly exemplary in his boundless
dedication to Everett's citizens and his unselfish humanitarian style evidenced by a
warm smile and a sincere effort to help the common person. His demeanor as a
councilmember served as a benchmark for his peers. While Bill's first love was his
family, the City of Everett and its citizens were a close second; and
WHEREAS, Bill's qualities as a statesman were shared by few. Bill was a gentleman
and a friend to all - a one of a kind - who touched and enriched the lives of those
whom he knew. Whether you were a friend, City employee, councilmember,
mayor or citizen, all were treated the same - with great respect, honesty and
dignity; and
WHEREAS, Bill saw the value of his position in the service he provided rather than
the title he held. Bill was involved in starting the Everett Boy's Club, bringing Little
League to Everett, and starting the paramedic program. He was a strong supporter
of the City's park projects including Kasch Park, Walter Hall Park and the Jetty
Island program. He promoted the expansion of the main library and initiated the
creation of the City Hall war memorial. His focus was always on the good of the
community, senior citizens and youth; and
WHEREAS, Bill's devoted advocacy for the youth of this community through his
involvement in the scouts as cubmaster and Boardmember of Evergreen Council of
Boy Scouts; schools as PTA president for Whittier Elementary and Everett High
School and recipient of the Golden Acorn Award; and sports as President of
Everett Boy's Club and President of Everett Little League Association, created a
legacy to be enjoyed by today's youth as well as the youth of tomorrow; and
