The basement level of the tower is allowed to be classified as a <br /> separate occupancy to the hospital above as the basement will be <br /> ' separated from the ground Floor by 2-hour floor construction and will <br /> not serve any health care occupants (NFPA 101). As such the code <br /> requirements for a healthcare occupancy will not apply to this level. <br /> ' The basement wili be considered a non-separated mixed occupancy <br /> containing S-1, S-2 and B occupancy areas. However, as required by <br /> NFPA 101 .18.3.7.1, the floor must be separated into two smoke zones. <br /> ' <br /> C. The lobby areas on the north side of floors G and 1 and the waiting <br /> � area in the northwest corner of Floor 2 will be separated from the <br /> neighboring I-2 areas by 2-hour fire barrier construction. These areas <br /> will 5e considered A-3 occupancies. To accommodate exiting by I-2 <br /> ' occupants through the A-3 occupancy areas the 2-hour fire barrier on <br /> floor G will be constructed as a Horizontal Exit. <br /> � II. CONSTRUCTION <br /> A. Construction Classification <br /> � The minimum construction type for tne building is Type I-B construction <br /> as permitted by IBC 403.3. This section allows Type I-A construction <br /> ' to be reduced to Type I-B when supervised sprinkler control valves and <br /> water-flov� devices are instailed on every floor. The Type I-A allowable <br /> height and area apply to this building, both of which are unlimited. <br /> � <br /> B. Minimum Fire Resistance Ratings <br /> ' 1. Exterior Walls <br /> � a) Bearing - 2-hour rating <br /> b) Non-bearing - 1-hour rating where fire separation' is 30 feet <br /> ' or less; non-rated in all other areas. <br /> 2. Interior Walls <br /> � a.
