., <br /> • <br /> 7 /q`/E771//// <br /> RESOLUTION # 4332 <br /> A resolution to work cooperatively with the Puget Sound Water Quality <br /> Action Team in the development of a 2-year strategy to maintain and <br /> enhance the health of Puget Sound <br /> WHEREAS, the 1996 Washington State Legislature created the Puget Sound Water <br /> Quality Action Team (Action Team) through passage of Engrossed Substitute House Bill <br /> 2875, known as the Puget Sound Water Quality Act, and charged it with coordinating <br /> activities for protecting and restoring the biological health and diversity of Puget Sound; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Action Team must, by statute, present the 1997 Washington State <br /> Legislature with a biennial work plan and budget which identifies and prioritizes local <br /> and State actions required to address regional water quality problems and related needs <br /> for funding and technical assistance on a regional basis; and <br /> WHEREAS, on August 9 Action Team staff met with the Mayor, City Councilmembers, <br /> and staff of Everett to discuss local needs and priorities for water quality protection and <br /> restoration so as to assist the Action Team in fulfilling its responsibilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Action Team and City concur on the results of the August 9 meeting as <br /> summarized by meeting notes; and <br /> WHEREAS, part of the City of Everett is situated on Port Gardner and Possession Sound <br /> and the Snohomish River which is tributary thereto; and <br /> WHEREAS, Port Gardner and Possession Sound are considered part of Puget Sound; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Everett have agreed to tax themselves to provide <br /> monies, which with financial assistance from both State and Federal governments, were <br /> used to construct facilities to protect and restore the waters of these receiving bodies; and <br /> WHEREAS, Everett desires to continue its commitment to meet the goals of the Federal <br /> Clean Water Act; and <br /> WHEREAS, the water bodies involved are regional in geographical extent and, therefore, <br /> beyond the sole ability of the City of Everett to protect and restore. <br /> RM:WTRQAT(Yl 9/26/96) 1 <br />
