Inspection/minor mainlenance aclivilies are c,mbined since
minor maintenance does not reyuire special equipment and typicaily Ilttle or no materials are in nced
of dispsal, inspection/miror maintenance typically involves inspeclion of the vault itself and removal
of vegeta(ion and debris. MaJor maintenane typically fncludes cartrfdce recharging. Major
maintenance may involve disposal of materials that require consideration of regutatory guidelines,
Depending on ihe particular unit configuraiion and equipment useu, major mainlenance may reqUire
an underslanding of OSHA rules. Table 7 summarizes the piimary activities associaled with
StormFilter maintenance.
TaUIQ 1. First, an
inspectionhninor maintenance activity should be done. During the minor mainlenance activiry (rout(ne
inapeclion, ciebris renovap, ihe need (or major maintenanco should be determined and, i( disposal
during major maintenance will be required, samples of the sediments and rradia should bo o6tained.
Second, if reuired, a major maintenance aclivily (replacement of Ihe filler cartridges and associated
sediment removal) shold be performed.
In addilion to these two scheduled ac(ivilies, it is important to check the condilfon of ttie S(oimfilter
unit after major storms for damage caused by hlgh flows and for hiyh sadiment accumulation that
may bo caused by localized erosion in iho drainago area. It may be necessary to adjust tho
maintenance aclivily schedule dependiny on the aoWal operating conditions oncounlered by the
sy,tem.
In general, minor maintenance activilles will occur late in the rainy season, and major mainlenance
wlll occur (n late sununer to early fall when flows Into the system are nol likely to be present.
The monlhs indicated in Table 2 below show the recommended limes of year for mainlenance
activilies io occur fn ihe Pacific Northwest.
:
T 8o0.54S.46G7 F 40a.5&I.iZ71 W www.stormwaterinc.com
