If vault enlry is required, OSI-IA ruies for general con(ined space entry must <br />be followed. Filler carltidge replacement chould occur during dry wealher, and it may be necessary <br />to plug the filter inlet pipe if base tlows exist. Standiny water present (n the vault sfiould be regarded <br />as polluted and should be contained during lhis operation by lemporarily capping the rnanifold <br />conneclors. <br />Replacement cartridges will he delivered to the site by one or two utility workers, dopendiny on (he <br />particular unil, ancl a liauling truck operator. Notify the local hazard control agency and Stormwater Management Inc. <br />� immediately. <br />To conduct cartridye replacement and sediment removal mainlenanc�: <br />1. If applicable, sei up safety equiprnent to protect pedestrians trom fall liazards due to upen vault <br />doors or when work is being done near roaclwa��s. <br />2. Visually inspect the exlernal condilion of the unit and take nutes concerning defects/problems, <br />3. Open the doors to the vault and allow the system to alf out for 5-10 minutes. <br />4. Withoul entering iho vault, give the inside of the unit, including components, a general condition <br />inspeclion. <br />5. Make notes about the exlemal and intemal condition of lhe vault. <br />Give particular attenlinn to recordiny lhe level aF sediment build-up on the floor of lhe v�ull, in the <br />forebay, and on top of the Internal compononts. <br />6. Remove large loose debris and tresh using a pole with a grapple or ne( on the end. <br />7. Usfriy a boom, crane, or other devlce (dolly and ramp), offload the roplacement cartridyes (150 <br />Ibs, each) and set aside. <br />8. Using an appropriate sling, aftacli the cable from tl�e boorn, crane, or tripod to the cartridgo beiny <br />removed. Contact SMI for sp. ci(icalions on appropriate attachment devices. <br />This aclivity may require that workers entel' lho vaull to remove the cartridges from lh� drainage <br />system and place tiiem unde� lhe Vauit opening for lifting. <br />Irnportant: Note lhat cartridges containing media ollier lhan ihe leaf inedia requlro unscrewing <br />(rom iheir threaded conneclors. Talce care not fo damage the manifold wnnectors.
