Owners Andy and Kaye Hall have requested their
property, the Challacombe& Fickel Building at 2727 Oakes Avenue, be placed on the Everett Register.
Built in 1923 as a funeral home, the building was designed by Benjamin Turnbull, one of Everett's most
important architects during the early 20th century. The building is also significant because of its architecture,
a combination of Colonial Revival and American Foursquare, and its connection with Nicholas Challacombe
and Charles Fickel, the original owners.
The Everett Historical Commission held a public hearing on the nomination on September 22, 2009, and
recommends placement of the Challacombe & Fickel Building on the Everett Register of Historic Places.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council):
Adopt the Resolution placing the Challacombe & Fickel Building on the Everett Register of Historic Places.
119
