On this r,ite, there are t}uee communities af wetland vegetadon. The 5rst is the area
w6ic6 has rec.endy been filled, along the northem edge of the properry, adjacent to Silver
Lake Road. 13e vegetation on the fill is predominantly all weUand species with a rating of
FACW or OBL.
Reed canarygraas (Phalaris arundinacea) is visually dominant because of its rather
rapid growth compared to t6e woody species present Soft rush (luncur efJ'usus), spirea
(Spirea dougfasii), and willow are common Wroughout the 611.
Scattered upland speaes such as Srnt's broom (Gytisus scopmius) and blackberry
(Rubus discolor) are also preseat on the fill; however, they aze not as common ac the
wedend species and are present because of their preference for open disturbed sites.
'I1u area of wedand on the northem portion of this property which has not been
611ed contains a well-established shrub wedand dominated by spirea and vazious species of
willow s6cubs. The herbaceous vegetation in this area is composed of soft rush and several
species of sedges (Carez spp.).
T6e souWwestern comer of the properry contains a small pond excavated adjacent
to the stream, and a small remnant of emergent wedand which is periodically mowed. The
vegetation is composed of velvet grass, soft rush, lady fern (Athyruim filix femina), and
unidenti6ed sedges. A rnnsiderable portion of the wetland is vegetated with an unidenti8ed
lawn grass.
Wetlend Area
As a result of the field surveys, the following wetland aaeage was determined:
northem portion of site:
- 0.21 acres unfilled spiraea w•edand,
- 0.41 acres filled wedaad (pioneeringluncus, willow, and spiraea vegetation
prosent); and
• souWern portion of site:
- 0.16 acres of pond and adjacent emergent Vegetadon.
Figure 2 shows the locadons and boundaries of the wetland azeas. In addition, a
narrow step of riparian and wedand vegetation, (approximately 5 feet wide) parallels the
Silver Lake Creek along the western boundary of the properry.
[MPACTS TO WETLAND
'Ibe proposed muld-family development will result in the loss o► O.dl acres of filled
wetland, and 024 acres of un6lled emergent wetland.
