wetlands will not signiGcandy aect the hydrology (storm water storage) of the site becuse
the 6ydrologic [unction has already been altered by past 6ll actividea. 'Ibe proposed fill
activity will, 6owever, eliminate the hydrologic functioac that now exist in the 0.24 acres of
un6lled wedand.
Wildlife value of the 5lled wedand is very limited because of t6e aparse vegetation
and lack of suitable soiL The unfilled wetland contains some atandIng water and supports
vegetadon suitable for waterfowl and seed-eating songbirds.
The wedand area at the southem ead of the site will not be sigaificandy disturbed
by the project. A smaU corner of t6e wedand (0.03 acres), oonsisting of 6ydric soils and
mowed grasses, will be lost by conatruction of a four-plex unit This 0.03-acre Ggure is
included in the 0.24-acro total listed abuve. Remaining wetland areas will be either
maintained or enhanad.
PROPOSED MITIGATION
Type and Locallon of Mitigation
Wetland loss will be mitigated by: 1) creating 0.25 acres of wedands from existing
uplands; 2) enhancing 0.11 acres of existing wetland; and 3) enhancing .03 acres of riparian
habitat along Silver Lake Creek. Figure 3 shows d►e proposed plan.
Wetland Creation
Wedands will be created en the wet property boundary and just north of the etisting
pond at We southwest corner of the properry (Figure 3). Existing upland areas will be
excavated to elevations compazable with the pond and Silver Lake Creek channel. T6e aew
wetland arai will be lined with peat and organic sails excavated from t6e wetland area to
be filled. Fiabiat to be created will include open water and stands of emergent and shrub
vegetadon (e.g., burreed, spiraea, etc.).
Wetland Enhancement
Wetland enhancement will be carried out on the edge of t6e eicisting pond at the
southwest corner of the property along Silver Lake Creek (0.03 acres) and on the northwest
corner of the property (0.01 acres). This will incb• de plantiag of prefeaed wildlife wedand
and riparian species such as rnttonwood, reti osier, dogwood, crabapple, willow, and wild
rose.
