Attachaent 2
Casper Creek lmNS (SEPA /92-89)
Page 4
Baalc Propram Guldel►nea:
1) Standard methods for collection of data and its analysis shall be used. These
methods shall bo taken from published literature on other westem Washington
Palustrine scrub/shrub wetland/wedand ecosystems. The most important
considerations shall be:
a) Type oi gear used to collect organisms.
b) Time of sampling. Since water level, moisture, temperature, lipht levels, and
nutrient input varies seasonally in PalusUine sc►ub/shrub weUands, care must be
taken to schedule sampling at the same time of year.
c) Size of sample unit. For example, the quadrant unit for sampling vegetation
must be kept the same size.
d) Location oi samping station. If sampling stations in a natural and restored
PalusUine scrub/shrub wetland ecosystem are to be compared they must be
surveyed to esteblish elevation above the sVeambed, since species composition
in a PalusUine scrub/shrub wetland ecosystem can change siqnificantly with
elevation changes.
2) Moni►or a broad renge of stiuctural and functional components within the Palustrine
scrvblshrub weGand ecosystem that are general indicators of Palustrine
scrub/shrub weUand condition.
3) Obtain annual air photas of the study area in order to detertnine overall chanpes in
the Palustrine saub/shrub wetland cortidor. From these photos identiry where
species composition mey be changing relative to the baseline vegetative survey
conducted for this report, and tradc and assess erosion, sedimentatlon in the
wetlard/creek, and land use changes adjacent to the wetland/creek study area.
