wedands wiU not signi6canQy affect the hydrology (storm water storage) of the site because
the hydrologic function has already beea altered by past fill activities. T6e propcsed fill
activiry will, however, elimiaate the hydrologic functions that aow wdst in the 0.24 aaes of
unfilled wedand.
Wildlife value of the filled wetland is very limited because of the aparse vegetation
and Iack of suitable soil. 'Itie unfilled wetland contains some standtng water and supports
vegetadoa suitable for waterfowl and seed-eating songbirds.
'Ibe wedand area at the southem end of the site wiU not be significantly disturbed
by the projecK. A small comer of the wedand (0.03 acros), consisting of 6ydric soils aad
mowed grasses, will be lost by conswctian of a four-plez uniG This 0.03-acre 6gure is
included in the 0.24-acre total listed above. Remaining wetland areas will be either
maintained or enhancxd.
PROPOSED MITIGATION
Type and [.ocation ot Mitfgation
Wedand loss will be mitiqated by: 1) creating 0.25 acres of wedands from existing
uplands; 2) enhancing 0.11 acres of existing wetlund; and 3) enhancing .03 acres of riparian
habitat along Silver Lake Creek. Figure 3 shuws the proposed pian.
Wetland Creatfon
Wetlands will be created on the wet pcoperty boundary and just north of the wdsdag
pond at the southwest corner of the property (Figure 3). P.xisdng upland areas will be
excavated to elevations comparable with the pond and Silver iake Creek channel. The new
wedand area will be lined with peat and organic ,oils excavated from the wetland area to
be filled. Habitat to be created will include open water and stands of emergent and shrub
vegetation (e.g., burreed, spiraea, etc.).
Wetland Enhancement
Wetland enhancement will be carcied out on the edge of the eicisdng pond at the
southwest corner of the properry along Silver Lake Creek (0.03 aaes) sed on the northwest
corner of the property (0.01 acres). This will include plandng of proferred wildlife wetland
and riparian species such as mttonwood, red osier, dogwaod, crabapple, willow, aad wild
rose.
3
