The Public Amenities Master Plan anticipates that portions of the Riverfront Development trail network
will be expanded and improved incrementally, synchronized with the schedule of private development
and associated public demand, and constructed as public monies are available. With continuity of
public access a city priority, the improvements proposed for the Riverfront Trail and the installation of
the new Railroad Corridor Trail will precede other trail work. Enhancements to the major circulation
routes, such as the wetland boardwalk loops proposed for the margins of Wetland C, will follow the
Early Phase elements of trail system construction.
The master plan proposes to retain existing trails where feasible, and to improve, in most instances, the
existing facilities to meet the expanded requirements of multimodal use. Trail repair and continuing
maintenance will be needed. Trail surfacing includes asphalt pavement, crushed rock, boardwalk, and
bridges. Several sections of existing paved trail will b widened, and new crushed rock or reinforced
shoulders will adjoin the Riverfront and Railroad Corridor T rails. Repairs to root-heaved portions of the
asphalt trails will be required, and drainage improvements will be made for those areas prone to
standing water. All facilities are planned to be universally accessible, with surfacing and gradients that
accommodate the full range of abilities. Soft-surface trails designed to accommodate wheelchairs will
require regular maintenance and grooming to keep them accessible, and boardwalk sections may need
seasonal grooming and cleaning or repair after flood events.
5,1-4.. _ --..
A+ .T
€.- ,' 4' {.Yt` '""kms' i • 4 "5 till fr i r °h i p
' 7.f- e t
•
ir 3/ x?r.\ aE p , P# ." 1. r:: .
fis wi• :4 t '-'3,..,,--.„?'...'''"-,''rfr •y r '" r-
= ,' 4 k ;
e Y
y ,
`Lr• Aa T..y r. s0.d. n r'r s -Si
% ,• $ ,-;-•;•„2.4„-1,e-y,k,, ir,,T 'i ce •1 , . •O
t.' 4 -^ r R r ,,,..4,..-‘ •
L ti, t. `i •r `
:'..-...,-“..i..,.. c...-- „ + .qui x..: RC2' i y. . ti. 7 ,.
., r ,£ r z
y t : e e '
isia
fi t r
s ; rv'"; mss7 ,
„,-,.,:.47..,0,_, - • „Az..,, ,,•: ,.;..,„,c__, ,
,,„,.....)_,4,,, ,,,
., G K.tr_-. = „,:.4..„,..,
 '
, ,
. .„
. : „..., ,
..,,,i,,i,,,
_
: pl
-, r
.....1/2:;."4.,4* . }}n
-
3' ,
2T
i
The existing gravel road west of the Simpson Pad can be adapted
for trail use.
36 Rivcriront Development Public A ieniiies Master Flat-)
71
