2
settlements associated with any changes in roadway/bridge profile and grade. HWA will
evaluate constructability issues including protection of the existing VoA building, and working
in proximity to the active railroad tracks. Analyses and recommendations for the bridge and
ancillary structures will be in conformance with current AASHTO LRFD procedures. It is
assumed that foundations for the pedestrian crossing signals will be designed in accordance with
the simplified WSDOT Standard Plan foundation design procedure.
1. Coordinate Environmental Considerations
Results of field screening and analytical laboratory testing will be coordinated and compiled
for inclusion in the geotechnical report. The report will include discussion of possible
impacts associated-with hazardous or contaminated soil and-groundwater-;-if any is
suspected or found. The report will include HWA's recommendations for a course of action
to be followed based on the technical findings of the investigation.
2. Draft Geotechnical Report
HWA will prepare a draft geotechnical report summarizing the results of the field
investigation,laboratory testing,engineering analyses,and geotechnical conclusions and
recommendations for design and construction of the project. The report will include figures
and charts as required to communicate the data and recommendations. The draft report will
be issued as or before the bridge design reaches the 30%completion level.
3. Final Geotechnical Report
HWA will participate in a meeting with the TranTech team to review and discuss
geotechnical considerations and any comments on the draft geotechnical report. Once report
comments are provided,HWA will address the comments and issue a final geotechnical
report. To ensure that the final geotechnical report is consistent with and supportive of the
final design, the final geotechnical report will be issued as the design reaches the
approximate 90% completion level.
4. Geotechnical PS&E Coordination and Support
HWA will provide geotechnical engineering support for PS&E preparation. This support
will involve input on the design, details, and coordination for: bridge abutments and interior
pier foundations;protection of the adjacent VoA structure; staged geotechnical construction;
site drainage and storm water facilities;approach fills; site earthwork including temporary
excavations; and new roadway pavement. HWA will participate in up to four(4)meetings
with the design team during PS&E coordination to discuss geotechnical aspects of the
project. HWA will provide any required geotechnical addenda to the final report if/as
necessary,to support the final PS&E documents.
Deliverables:
• Draft Geotechnical Report
• Final Geotechnical Report
• Geotechnical Addenda as necessary to Support PS&E Activities
TASK 4: ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING,NEPA/SEPA:
20
