} • ORDINANCE NO. _1902-92 _-- EVERETT AN ORDINANCE establishing requirements for automatic fire detection and fire suppression systems in buildings and repealing Ordinance No. 1759-90. WHEREAS, the City Council finds that automatic fire detection systems and automatic fire suppression systems are now technologically and economically viable and can help to reduce the loss of life and property due to fire and are therefore reasonably necessary in order to protect the public health, safety and welfare; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the installation of automatic fire detection systems and automatic fire suppression systems can help the firefighting capabilities of the Everett Fire Department with its manpower and equipment constraints and provide a rational basis for planning public fire protection expenditures by defining the balance between traditional fire protection resources to be supplied by the public and those supplied by the private sector while at the same time reducing the costs of traditional fire protection and its related expenditures such as larger water mains, fire apparatus turn-arounds and fire hydrants in newly developed areas; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the installation of automatic fire detection systems and automatic fire suppression systems should help cause a reduction in insurance premiums; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Everett to adopt an ordinance establishing requirements for automatic fire detection systems and fire suppression systems in buildings;
