4. Group R Occupancies as defined by the UBC. An automatic fire <br /> suppression system shall be installed throughout every apartment house <br /> three or more stories in height or containing more than four dwelling <br /> units and every hotel, congregate residence, or residential group care <br /> facility three or more stories in height or containing six or more guest <br /> or sleeping rooms. Residential or quick response standard sprinkler <br /> heads shall be used in the dwelling unit and guest or sleeping room <br /> portions of the building. Notwithstanding the above occupancy <br /> thresholds, buildings with gross floor area exceeding 6,000 square feet <br /> are required to have automatic fire suppression systems throughout. All <br /> automatic fire suppression systems shall comply with requirements of the <br /> Uniform Building Code. <br /> Exception: Group R-3, Single-family residences <br /> 5. Group H Occupancies as defined by the UBC; and <br /> 6. Group I Occupancies as defined by the UBC. <br /> Section 4: Installation. <br /> All approved automatic fire suppression systems and approved automatic fire <br /> detection systems shall be installed in accordance with the appropriate UBC, Uniform <br /> Fire Code, National Fire Protection Standards, and Washington State Building Code <br /> Standards. <br /> Section 5: Alterations, Repairs and Building Additions. <br /> The provisions of this ordinance shall apply to all new buildings. Further, <br /> the provisions of this ordinance shall also apply to all existing buildings which <br /> are altered or repaired when such alteration or repair within any seventy (70) month <br /> period equals or exceeds fifty percent (50%) of the assessed value of the building <br /> as established by the Snohomish County Assessor at the time of initial permit <br /> application. The value of the alterations or repairs shall be defined as set forth <br /> in the UBC. Existing buildings which exceed the area thresholds shall not be <br /> increased in size without complying with this ordinance. <br /> 5 <br />
