2
ORDINANCE NO.
An Ordinance Amending the Zoning Code to Provide for Verification that New or
Expanded Structures Comply with Zoning Standards for Maximum Height and
Minimum Setbacks, Amending Ordinance No. 1671-89, as amended(EMC Title 19)
WHEREAS, the City Council finds the following:
1. The land use code contains development standards for maximum building heights and
minimum building setbacks; and
2. These standards are intended to provide for orderly development that is compatible with
neighboring properties by protecting access to daylight and fresh air and preserving open
spaces on individual properties; and
3. Purchasers of property expect these standards are satisfied in any particular
neighborhood; and
4. Confirming during construction inspections that these standards are being met can be
difficult, sometimes resulting in noncompliant structures that, once built, can be difficult
and expensive to bring into compliance; and
5. Requiring verification that a proposed structure complies with the standards before and
during the construction stage can help avoid problems before they arise, possibly saving
the property owner the cost of retrofitting the structure and and reducing the amount of
City resources required for enforcement efforts.
WHEREAS, the City Council concludes the following:
1. The proposed amendment to the Zoning Code bears a substantial relation to the public
health, safety and welfare; and
2. The proposed amendment to the Zoning code promotes the best long-term interests of the
Everett community.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT ORDAINS the following:
2
