April 15, 2017 <br /> The Council discussed the allocation of parks in North Everett; long-term <br /> funding for parks and a possible review of a plan to create a municipal <br /> parks district; engaging school districts; celebrating diversity; and <br /> annexation. The discussion continued regarding safety and the need for a <br /> fully staffed Police Department, potential hiring incentives, and addressing <br /> gang violence and crimes. <br /> Mayor Stephanson left the council chambers at 10:30 a.m. for a prior <br /> commitment and announced he would be back before 11:30 a.m. <br /> The Council Retreat recessed for a break at 10:45 a.m. and reconvened at <br /> 10:53 a.m. <br /> NEIGHBORHOODS AND CIVIC EVENGAGEMENT <br /> Neighborhoods and Civic Engagement <br /> Presented by Meghan Pembroke, Administration <br /> Mayor Stephanson rejoined the group at 11:08 a.m. <br /> Discussion took place regarding school partnerships, including the <br /> possibility of hosting neighborhood meetings in the schools; demographic <br /> outreach, and not just geographic; engaging businesses to help in <br /> neighborhoods; providing City staff with toolkits for communicating and <br /> creating outlets for citizen to learn about the city, including the need for <br /> different language translations. <br /> COUNCIL RETREAT REVIEW <br /> Facilitator Norton-Arnold asked Council to define their ideas further <br /> regarding the City's involvement in housing, long-term funding for parks, <br /> redevelopment of key areas, building better neighborhoods, and <br /> institutionalized safe streets, to assist in producing her report back to <br /> Council. <br /> Council Member Bader left the council chambers at 11:43 a.m. <br /> 125 <br />
