City of Everett Human Needs Grant January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017 Exhibit A Program Description Organization: Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center Program: Cribs for Kids @ Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center YOUTH: The Cribs for Kids program at Dawson Place CAC serves families to protect youth from potential death due to parental delinquency or neglect. e) Abuse/Neglect Abuse f) Violence/Delinquency Prevention Dawson Place has already established a professional network with police departments, Child Protective Services, and other governmental and non-profit child/family advocacy organizations. This network of partners has people on the front line who are witness to families where unsafe infant sleeping environments exist. When one of our partners witnesses a dangerous sleep environment, they either refer the family to Dawson Place for a free crib, or they pick up a crib from Dawson Place and deliver it to the family in person. The following email illustrates how the program works: "I stopped in to Dawson Place to get a baby crib for a mom I work with in August and wanted to email you and thank you. The family is experiencing homelessness and is currently in the YWCA transitional housing program. She needed a baby crib for her newborn and when she asked me for a resource it felt so great to be able to say, "I know where you can get a new pack n play." She is so grateful and she voiced how she feels more secure to know her baby is safe while she is sleeping. Thank you."— Rebecca Lang; YWCA, Lead Family Advocate The Cribs for Kids program at Dawson Place CAC is located in Downtown Everett, and serves all of Snohomish County. Program Objective: The Cribs for Kids program at Dawson Place CAC seeks to prevent sleep-related infant deaths caused by suffocation in unsafe sleeping environments in Snohomish County. Program Components and Structure: The Cribs for Kids program at Dawson Place CAC includes a single crib distribution point, and a loose network of professionals. The program is spread through word-of-mouth, and is highlighted at Dawson Place's speaking engagements and outreach events. Each crib includes new sheets, and safe-sleep information/instructions in both English and Spanish. There is no long-term funding source for the program. Dawson Place Clientele: Target Population Families in need of a safe sleep crib for their infant, but do not have the financial means to purchase one.
