Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center 3/23/2017

• Takes referrals on cases of suspected child physical and sexual abuse or neglect. • Investigates those allegations and provides support services. • Helps to enable families to safely care for children in their own homes when possible. • Carries out all applicable legal mandates relating to the protection of children in Washington. Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse (PICAA); Department of Providence Regional Medical Center: • Provides comprehensive Medical and Advocacy Services to child victims of physical and sexual abuse. Services provided by Nurse Practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants and advocates. • Services include medical forensic examinations, 24-hour crisis line support, case management, legal advocacy, referrals & other support services, including victim support groups. • Delivers community education and outreach via presentations on abuse prevention. • All services are in accordance with the standards of the Office of Crime Victim's Advocacy. Snohomish County Sheriff's Special Investigations Unit(SIU): • Investigates allegations of child neglect, physical & sexual abuse cases from mandatory reports and from the public at large. • Detectives (6) coordinate investigations with other participating agencies to ensure that system trauma to family is minimized. • One detective's sole responsibility is Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking cases. • Refer criminal cases to the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office for consideration of charges. • While only Snohomish County Sheriff's Office SIU is located at Dawson Place, law enforcement agencies from throughout the county work collaboratively with Dawson Place. Snohomish County Prosecutor's Special Assault Unit(SAU): • Reviews all cases referred by law enforcement for the consideration of charges. • Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys and victim legal advocates of the SAU coordinate with partner agencies during all phases of prosecution. • One DPA is dedicated to Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking cases. • Strive to hold offenders accountable, while minimizing the trauma to the victim and their non-offending family members. Compass Health's Child Abuse Program (CAP): • Therapists offer mental health assessments and on-going treatment to children and young adult victims of sexual abuse. • Offers individual, family, and group treatment for children and their non-offending family members at Dawson Place and other locations in Snohomish County. Everett Police Department: • Staffs one Sergeant Detective for DPCAC Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) case reviews. • One Detective works closely with SIU detective and DPA on Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking cases. • Provides partial funding for one child interview specialist. • Refers cases to DPCAC for services and/or interviews. All other law enforcement agencies in Snohomish County: • Provide partial funding for one child interview specialist. • Refer cases to DPCAC for interviews and other services. No other county in the State, and few in the country, can point to a single location that provides ALL the services that are available to child victims of sexual or physical abuse: child-oriented medical and mental health care, child forensic interviews, advocacy& protective services, police investigations, and prosecution services.
