• Takes referrals on cases of suspected child physical and sexual abuse or neglect. <br /> • Investigates those allegations and provides support services. <br /> • Helps to enable families to safely care for children in their own homes when possible. <br /> • Carries out all applicable legal mandates relating to the protection of children in Washington. <br /> Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse (PICAA); Department of Providence Regional Medical <br /> Center: <br /> • Provides comprehensive Medical and Advocacy Services to child victims of physical and sexual <br /> abuse. Services provided by Nurse Practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants and advocates. <br /> • Services include medical forensic examinations, 24-hour crisis line support, case management, legal <br /> advocacy, referrals & other support services, including victim support groups. <br /> • Delivers community education and outreach via presentations on abuse prevention. <br /> • All services are in accordance with the standards of the Office of Crime Victim's Advocacy. <br /> Snohomish County Sheriff's Special Investigations Unit(SIU): <br /> • Investigates allegations of child neglect, physical & sexual abuse cases from mandatory reports and <br /> from the public at large. <br /> • Detectives (6) coordinate investigations with other participating agencies to ensure that system trauma <br /> to family is minimized. <br /> • One detective's sole responsibility is Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking cases. <br /> • Refer criminal cases to the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office for consideration of charges. <br /> • While only Snohomish County Sheriff's Office SIU is located at Dawson Place, law enforcement <br /> agencies from throughout the county work collaboratively with Dawson Place. <br /> Snohomish County Prosecutor's Special Assault Unit(SAU): <br /> • Reviews all cases referred by law enforcement for the consideration of charges. <br /> • Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys and victim legal advocates of the SAU coordinate with partner agencies <br /> during all phases of prosecution. <br /> • One DPA is dedicated to Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking cases. <br /> • Strive to hold offenders accountable, while minimizing the trauma to the victim and their non-offending <br /> family members. <br /> Compass Health's Child Abuse Program (CAP): <br /> • Therapists offer mental health assessments and on-going treatment to children and young adult <br /> victims of sexual abuse. <br /> • Offers individual, family, and group treatment for children and their non-offending family members at <br /> Dawson Place and other locations in Snohomish County. <br /> Everett Police Department: <br /> • Staffs one Sergeant Detective for DPCAC Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) case reviews. <br /> • One Detective works closely with SIU detective and DPA on Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking cases. <br /> • Provides partial funding for one child interview specialist. <br /> • Refers cases to DPCAC for services and/or interviews. <br /> All other law enforcement agencies in Snohomish County: <br /> • Provide partial funding for one child interview specialist. <br /> • Refer cases to DPCAC for interviews and other services. <br /> No other county in the State, and few in the country, can point to a single location that provides ALL the <br /> services that are available to child victims of sexual or physical abuse: child-oriented medical and mental health <br /> care, child forensic interviews, advocacy& protective services, police investigations, and prosecution services. <br />
